The OTT releases on Friday, 23 October 2026 include Karthik Subbaraj's Tamil drama Dorothy and the Malayalam time-loop comedy Dhoomakethu on Netflix, the Hindi sports film Sumo Didi on ZEE5, Lupin Part 4 on Netflix and the courtroom series Sattamum Needhiyum Season 2 on ZEE5. Nani's The Paradise and the Telugu comedy Varam arrived a day earlier.

It is one of those weeks where the South Indian slate is stronger than everything else put together. If you only have one evening, the choice is between a 1980s crime drama, a wedding day that keeps repeating and a woman who broke barriers in sumo. Not a bad problem to have.

Which South Indian releases are worth watching?

Dorothy (Netflix, Tamil). Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, with Sananth, Rishikanth, Keerthy Suresh and Ramachandran Durairaj. Set in the 1980s, it follows two childhood friends who work as henchmen for a crime family. After a mysterious death in the household, one of them reveals her true gender identity, is cast out and finds herself hunted by her former friend. Subbaraj fans know he rarely makes a simple gangster film, and this premise suggests something more personal.

Dhoomakethu (Netflix, Malayalam). Sudhi Maddison directs Sajin Gopu, Nikhila Vimal, Shine Tom Chacko and Sidharth Bharathan in a time-loop comedy. A man is killed on the morning of his own wedding, wakes up on the same day again, and keeps trying to change events while uncovering a conspiracy linked to a rare comet. Malayalam cinema does dark comedy very well, and this looks like the weekend's most fun watch.

Sattamum Needhiyum Season 2 (ZEE5, Tamil). Saravanan and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar lead this courtroom drama about an advocate whose principles are tested by a case that exposes institutional corruption.

What else is new this week on OTT?

The Paradise (Netflix, Telugu, from 22 October). Srikanth Odela directs Nani, Mohan Babu, Kayadu Lohar, Sonali Kulkarni and Raghav Juyal in an action drama set in 1980s Secunderabad, about a man fighting for the dignity of his marginalised community against a powerful family.

Varam (JioHotstar, Telugu, from 22 October). A suspense comedy by Aditya Mandala about a slum dweller who can read tomorrow's news today and tries to use it to escape poverty, only for fate to keep pushing back.

Sumo Didi (ZEE5, Hindi, 23 October). A film inspired by Hetal Dave, who broke barriers in sumo wrestling. Sports films about women who chose an unusual path are always worth showing to the teenagers in the house.

Lupin Part 4 (Netflix, 23 October). The French heist series returns for another instalment.

Her View

It is lovely to see a week where a story about gender identity, a story about a woman in sumo and a story about community dignity all land on mainstream platforms on the same weekend. Streaming has made room for stories that once struggled to find a theatre. Watching them, and talking about them at home, is how that room stays open.

His Insight

The Friday release pattern has shifted. Several big titles now arrive on Thursday or even midweek, so "Friday releases" is increasingly a long weekend window. If you are juggling subscriptions, this week makes a case for Netflix, which carries Dorothy, Dhoomakethu, The Paradise and Lupin together.

H View Verdict

If you watch one thing this weekend, make it Dorothy for the craft or Dhoomakethu for the fun. Families can try Sumo Didi together. And if you missed The Paradise on Thursday, it is already waiting on Netflix.
