Why use this image to text (ocr)
Typing out text from a photo of a notice, a page of a book or a screenshot takes time, and mistakes slip in. OCR (optical character recognition) reads the letters for you. This tool uses Tesseract, a well-known open-source OCR engine, running in your browser, with language files for English, Hindi and Telugu.
It works best on clear, straight, well-lit photos of printed text; handwriting is much harder to read. For a scanned document you want to keep as a PDF instead, see Compress PDF and Images to PDF.
- Indian languagesReads English, Hindi (Devanagari) and Telugu, or a mix of English with either.
- Scanned PDFs tooEvery page of a scanned PDF is read, and the text is kept in page order.
- Edit before savingThe text appears in an editable box; unsure words are marked on the picture.
- PrivateReading happens in your browser. Your images and documents are not uploaded.
Questions people ask
How do I convert an image to text?
Add the image, choose the language of the text and press “Get text”. Copy the result or download it as .txt or Word.
Does it read Hindi and Telugu?
Yes. Choose “Hindi + English” or “Telugu + English” for mixed text, or the single language for text in only that script.
Can it read handwriting?
Neat handwriting sometimes works, but OCR is made for printed text. Expect to correct handwritten results.
Can I get text from a scanned PDF?
Yes. Add the PDF and every page (up to 50) is read in order.
Why is the first run slower?
The text reader and the language file (about 1.5 to 3 MB each) download the first time, then they are cached.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The text is read in your browser and nothing is sent to H View.
