Why use this income tax calculator
For the tax year 2026-27 (1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027) the new regime is the default. Its slabs are: up to ₹4 lakh nil, ₹4 to 8 lakh 5%, ₹8 to 12 lakh 10%, ₹12 to 16 lakh 15%, ₹16 to 20 lakh 20%, ₹20 to 24 lakh 25%, and above ₹24 lakh 30%. Salaried people and pensioners get a standard deduction of ₹75,000, and a rebate makes taxable income up to ₹12 lakh tax-free.
The old regime allows deductions such as 80C, 80D, HRA and home loan interest, with a ₹50,000 standard deduction. Which one is better depends on how much you can claim. Health and education cess of 4% applies in both. This calculator is an estimate for resident individuals and leaves out capital gains and other special-rate income.

Questions people ask
What are the new regime tax slabs for 2026-27?
Up to ₹4 lakh nil, ₹4 to 8 lakh 5%, ₹8 to 12 lakh 10%, ₹12 to 16 lakh 15%, ₹16 to 20 lakh 20%, ₹20 to 24 lakh 25%, and above ₹24 lakh 30%, plus 4% cess.
Is income up to ₹12 lakh tax-free?
In the new regime, yes, if your taxable income is up to ₹12 lakh, thanks to the rebate. For salaried people that means a salary of up to ₹12.75 lakh after the ₹75,000 standard deduction. Special-rate income such as capital gains is treated separately.
Which regime is better for me?
The old regime helps when your deductions, such as 80C, HRA, 80D and home loan interest, are large. Enter them and the calculator shows which regime gives lower tax.
What is marginal relief?
Just above ₹12 lakh of taxable income, the new regime’s tax cannot be more than the income above ₹12 lakh. It stops a small raise from creating a big tax bill.
Is this the final tax I have to pay?
It is an estimate. Your final tax depends on all your income and claims. Check with a chartered accountant or the Income Tax portal before filing.
