Why use this gst calculator

GST is charged on the taxable value of goods and services. For a sale within the same state, the tax is split equally between Central GST and State GST (or Union Territory GST). For a sale to another state, the whole amount is Integrated GST. The rate depends on the HSN or SAC code of what you sell.

From 22 September 2025 most items moved to two main rates, 5% and 18%, with a 40% rate for a short list of luxury and sin goods. Check the current rate for your item on the GST portal or with your accountant before you bill.

Questions people ask

How do I calculate GST on a price?

Multiply the price before tax by the rate. For example, 18% GST on ₹10,000 is ₹1,800, so the total is ₹11,800.

How do I remove GST from an inclusive price?

Divide the price by 1 plus the rate. For example, ₹11,800 including 18% GST is ₹11,800 ÷ 1.18 = ₹10,000 before tax, with ₹1,800 of GST.

When do I charge CGST and SGST instead of IGST?

CGST and SGST apply when the supplier and the place of supply are in the same state. IGST applies when they are in different states.

What are the GST rates now?

Since 22 September 2025 the main rates are 5% and 18%, with 40% for selected luxury and sin goods, and special rates such as 0%, 0.25% and 3% for some items.

Can I use a rate that is not listed?

Yes. Choose Other in the settings and type any rate, for example for an older invoice.
