Why use this indexability and sitemap checker

A page cannot rank if search engines are told not to index it. Common causes are a forgotten noindex from a staging site, a robots.txt rule that blocks a whole folder, a canonical tag pointing to another page, or a sitemap full of old links that redirect.

This checker looks at all of those together. “Indexable” means nothing on the page or server stops Google from indexing it. Whether Google has chosen to index it is decided by Google, and the URL Inspection tool in Google Search Console is the place to confirm that.

  • Honest verdictsIt tells you whether Google is allowed to index a page, and says clearly that only Search Console shows what is actually indexed.
  • Sitemap healthFinds sitemap indexes and child sitemaps, counts the links and flags sitemap pages that redirect or fail.
  • robots.txt read like GoogleGooglebot rules, longest match wins, with * and $ patterns.
  • Noindex in both placesChecks the meta robots tag and the X-Robots-Tag header.
  • Check in Google linksOne click per page to see whether it appears in Google results.

Questions people ask

Does this tool show whether Google has indexed my page?

Not directly. It shows whether Google is allowed to index each page. For the actual status, use URL Inspection in Google Search Console. The Check in Google link runs a quick site: search, which gives a rough idea.

What does “Canonical elsewhere” mean?

The page has a canonical tag pointing to a different address, so Google is asked to index that other address instead.

Why is a page marked Blocked?

A Disallow rule in robots.txt stops Googlebot from crawling it. The report shows the rule.

My site has no sitemap. Can I still use it?

Yes. With the option on, it checks the pages linked from your home page instead. Adding a sitemap still helps search engines find your pages.

Why should sitemap links not redirect?

A sitemap should list the final addresses you want indexed. Redirecting or broken links waste crawling and send mixed signals.

From the H View blog

H View SEO tools read public web pages the way a search engine does, through a small reader on hview.in, and follow each site’s robots.txt. Reports are made in your browser and are not stored. Results show what the page says about itself; only Google Search Console shows how Google actually treats your site. Use them on sites you own or have permission to check.
