1What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser. Similar tools, such as your browser’s local storage, keep small pieces of information on your device. They help a site remember you between pages and visits.
2Cookies and storage H View uses
| Name | Type | What it does | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| PHPSESSID | Essential cookie | Keeps your visit together, protects forms from misuse and remembers short messages such as “Thank you for your comment”. | Until you close the browser |
| hv_vid | Functional cookie | A random code that lets each browser rate an article once and change its rating. It does not contain your name or email. | 1 year |
| hva_name, hva_email | Local storage | Fills in your name and email the next time you comment. Stays on your device only. | Until you clear it |
| hva_nudge_… | Local storage | Remembers that you closed the “Enjoying this article?” box, so it is not shown again. | Until you clear it |

Frequently asked questions
Can I read H View with cookies turned off?
Yes. Articles work without cookies. Commenting, rating and some forms need the essential session cookie.
Do H View cookies know who I am?
Our own cookies do not contain your name or email. Advertising and analytics cookies use codes, not names.
Why do I see ads about things I looked at elsewhere?
That is personalised advertising by Google. You can turn it off in Google Ads Settings.
